Common medium truck tire sizes
| Size | Typical use |
|---|---|
| 225/70R19.5 | Medium-duty box and delivery trucks |
| 245/70R19.5 | Medium-duty trucks carrying heavier loads |
| 11R22.5 | Heavier trucks, tractors and trailers |
| 295/75R22.5 | Low-profile alternative to 11R22.5 |
| 11R24.5 | Trucks and trailers on 24.5-inch wheels |
11R22.5 and 295/75R22.5 fit the same wheels and are close in diameter, but don't mix them on one axle.
Steer, drive or trailer?
- Steer tires go on the front axle. They have rib treads for straight tracking and even wear.
- Drive tires go on powered axles. They have lug or block treads for traction.
- Trailer tires roll free. They have rib treads built to resist scrubbing on turns.
Some all-position tires work on any axle. Tell us the position so we quote the right tread.
Load range
Medium truck tires are rated by load range, such as G (similar to 14-ply) and H (similar to 16-ply). Use at least the load range on your current tires or your truck's placard, and replace dual pairs with tires of matching size and wear.
What to send us
- The full size and load range from the sidewall.
- The wheel position: steer, drive or trailer.
- Highway, regional or on/off-road use.
- How many, new or used, and where to ship.
What are low rolling resistance and SmartWay tires?
The EPA's SmartWay program verifies low rolling resistance tires for trucks that burn less fuel at highway speed. Under its guidance, testing a tire in 295/75R22.5 or 275/80R22.5 in load range G can extend verification across the model's other listed sizes and load ranges, including 11R22.5 in load ranges G and H. The scope depends on the size the maker tested, so check the EPA list for your exact model. See the EPA tire size guidance. If fuel economy matters on your route, tell us and we will check whether the model you want is verified.
How do you buy used medium truck tires safely?
Ask for the tread remaining, the DOT date code and photos of both sidewalls. Check for cuts, bulges and any sign of a repair, and buy matched pairs for duals so the two tires share the load evenly. Our used tire inspection guide shows what to look for; the same checks apply to truck casings.
What are semi tractor trailer tires?
In the trucking world, a tractor trailer is a semi: a truck tractor pulling a trailer. Those rigs mostly run 22.5-inch tires, such as 11R22.5 and 295/75R22.5 in the table above, in load range G or H. A semi has three kinds of position. Steer tires go on the front axle, drive tires on the powered axles and trailer tires on the trailer. These are not farm tractor tires, so if you are after a tire for a field tractor, see our tractor tires page instead. For a semi or trailer, send us the size, the position and the load range, and we will quote the options with shipping.

Questions
What is the difference between 11R22.5 and 295/75R22.5?
Both fit a 22.5-inch wheel and are close in overall diameter. 295/75R22.5 is a low-profile metric size with a slightly shorter sidewall. Keep the same size on each axle, especially on duals.
What does load range G or H mean?
It is the strength rating of the casing. Load range G is similar to a 14-ply tire and H to a 16-ply tire. Match or exceed the rating on your current tires.
Can I use a drive tire on the steer axle?
No. Steer tires are designed for straight tracking and even wear on the front axle. Use steer or all-position tires there.
How long does shipping take?
Shipping takes about 1 week. We quote the shipping to your location together with the tire prices.
How do I pay?
Payment is by Zelle.
What are SmartWay verified tires?
Tires the EPA has verified as low rolling resistance for highway trucks. Verification scope depends on the size the maker tested, so check the EPA list for your exact model and size.
Do you sell tractor trailer tires?
Yes, as medium truck tires in 19.5-inch and 22.5-inch sizes for steer, drive and trailer positions. Send us the size, the position and the load range from your current tire.
