Buying 14-17.5 tires

14-17.5 is a skid steer size for large skid steer loaders, and it is also fitted to some compact wheel loaders and telehandlers. It is about 14 inches (356 mm) wide on a 17.5-inch rim. The bigger size carries more weight and spreads it over a wider footprint than the common 10-16.5 and 12-16.5, which helps on soft ground and with heavy attachments.

Choosing a 14-17.5 tire

  • Ply rating: 14-ply is the most common. Match or exceed what your machine runs now.
  • Tread: deep lugs for dirt, mud and snow; smoother, wider treads for long life on concrete and asphalt.
  • Solid and foam-filled options: some operators working around scrap, rebar or demolition choose puncture-proof tires. Tell us if you need them.

Size and rim

The 17.5-inch rim is not interchangeable with 16.5-inch skid steer wheels. If you are changing size, you need matching wheels with the right bolt pattern and offset. See wheels and rims.

Replace all four

Skid steers steer by speed difference between their sides, so keep all four tires the same size and similar tread depth.

Used tires

Ask for the tread depth, the date code and photos of the sidewalls, and check for cuts and repairs.

What do 14-17.5 tires cost on our site?

Model Tread Load / ply Price per tire
Ascenso SSB 331 R-4 – $303

How tall is the 14-17.5 tire?

The nominal overall diameter is about 41.3 in (1,049 mm), which gives a rolling circumference near 13 in (3,296 mm). That figure is an estimate that assumes an 85% aspect ratio, the usual rule for old inch sizes. Real tires vary by make and load, so treat it as a guide and use the tire diameter calculator or the lead-lag calculator before you change size on a front-wheel-assist tractor.

Is 14-17.5 a radial or a bias tire?

It is a bias-ply size. The dash in the size marks bias construction, which costs less and has stiffer sidewalls. See the radial vs bias guide.
