Buying 14L-16.1 implement tires

14L-16.1 is an implement tire for planters, disc harrows, field cultivators, wagons and other towed farm equipment. The L means a low-section tire: wide for flotation and low for stability. It is about 14 inches (356 mm) wide on a 16.1-inch rim.

Tread choices

• I-1 rib: the usual choice for free-rolling wheels. It rolls easily and resists sideways scrub.
• I-3 traction: lugged tread for ground-drive wheels and soft fields.

Rim and size

The 16.1-inch rim is an implement rim size and is not interchangeable with 16-inch rims.

• Wider on the same rim: 16.5L-16.1 and 21.5L-16.1 give more flotation but need wider wheels and more clearance.

What to check

• Load rating: implement tires come in several ply ratings. Loaded wagons, carts and trailers on the road need the higher ratings. Match or exceed what you have.
