Buying 16.5L-16.1 implement tires
16.5L-16.1 is a common implement tire for planters, disc harrows, field cultivators, pull-type sprayers, wagons and other towed farm equipment. It is about 16.5 inches (419 mm) wide on a 16.1-inch rim; the L means a low-section tire, wide for flotation and low for stability.
Tread choices
- I-1 rib: for free-rolling wheels. It rolls easily and resists scrubbing when the implement turns.
- I-3 traction: lugged tread for grip in soft soil, often on ground-drive wheels that power a planter or applicator.
Match the tread to what the wheel does, and keep the same tread across an axle.
The 16.1-inch rim
16.1-inch implement rims are not the same as 16-inch rims. Wider sizes on the same rim include 21.5L-16.1, which gives more flotation for heavy carts but needs a wider wheel and more clearance.
What to check
- Ply rating: 8-ply to 14-ply is common. Heavy tillage tools and loaded wagons need the higher ratings. Match or exceed your current tires.
- Tube or tubeless: many implement wheels in this size run tubes. Tell us what you use.
- Complete wheels: send the bolt count and hub size if you need tire and wheel assemblies. See wheels and rims.
- Used tires: ask for the date code and sidewall photos, and look for cracks around the bead.
