Buying 21.5L-16.1 implement tires
21.5L-16.1 is a wide, low-section implement tire for heavy towed equipment: tillage tools, air seeder carts, grain carts, wagons and similar machines that need flotation on soft ground. It is about 21.5 inches (546 mm) wide on a 16.1-inch rim. The L means a low section, so the tire is much wider than it is tall, which spreads heavy loads and reduces rutting.
Tread choices
- I-1 rib: rolls easily and resists sideways scrub. The usual choice for free-rolling implement wheels.
- I-3 traction: lugged tread for grip in soft fields, where wheels drive a ground-driven mechanism, or where the machine needs to pull itself through mud.
The 16.1-inch rim
The 16.1-inch rim is an implement rim size and is not interchangeable with 16-inch rims. Other sizes on the same rim include 16.5L-16.1 and 14L-16.1. If you need complete wheels, send the bolt count and hub details. See wheels and rims.
What to check
- Ply rating: 10-ply to 16-ply is common. Loaded carts and wagons need the higher ratings; match or exceed what you have.
- Tube or tubeless: tell us what your wheels run.
- Width: check clearance and transport width if you are moving up from a narrower tire.
- Used tires: ask for the date code and sidewall photos. Implement tires often crack from age before they wear out.
