Buying 18.4-26 tires
18.4-26 is an industrial rear tire for backhoe loaders, tractor loaders and yard tractors. It is about 18.4 inches (467 mm) wide on a 26-inch wheel. The 26-inch rim is mostly found on construction and industrial machines rather than farm tractors, so this size is almost always made with R-4 industrial tread: shorter, closer lugs that stay stable on concrete and gravel and still grip in dirt.
On a backhoe, the rear tires carry the digging end and most of the traction, so they take heavy, uneven loads. Pair them with the right front size; many backhoes run 12.5/80-18 or a similar front. See our backhoe and loader tires for other common sizes.
Easy to confuse
- 18.4-26 vs 18.4-28: same width, different rim. They are not interchangeable without changing wheels.
What to check
- Ply rating: 10-ply and 12-ply are common. Match or exceed your current tires; never go lower on a digging machine.
- Tread: keep R-4 on both sides of the axle.
- Tube or tubeless: tell us what you run now, and whether the tires are filled with liquid ballast.
- Used tires: ask for the tread depth, the date code and photos of both sidewalls. Look for cuts from rock, rebar and demolition debris.

How tall is the 18.4-26 tire?
The nominal overall diameter is about 57.3 in (1,455 mm), which gives a rolling circumference near 18 in (4,571 mm). That figure is an estimate that assumes an 85% aspect ratio, the usual rule for old inch sizes. Real tires vary by make and load, so treat it as a guide and use the tire diameter calculator or the lead-lag calculator before you change size on a front-wheel-assist tractor.
Is 18.4-26 a radial or a bias tire?
It is a bias-ply size. The dash in the size marks bias construction, which costs less and has stiffer sidewalls. See the radial vs bias guide.
