Buying 23.1-26 tires
23.1-26 is a very wide bias tire on a 26-inch rim, about 23.1 inches (587 mm) across. It is a classic drive tire on combines, and it is also used on large tractors, heavy implements and some grain carts where a wide, low-pressure footprint helps on soft ground.
Tread choices
- R-1: standard farm lug for combines and tractors in normal field conditions.
- R-2: very deep lugs for rice, cane and flooded ground.
- Implement tread: for towed equipment where the tire rolls free.
A radial version, 23.1R26, is also made. It rides better and puts a longer footprint on the ground, which counts on a machine that carries a full grain tank across the field.
What to check
- Ply rating: combines are heavy, and a full grain tank adds a lot of weight. 10-ply and 12-ply are common; match or exceed your current tires.
- Clearance: this is a wide tire. If you are changing from a narrower size, check the clearance at the frame and the transport width.
- Freight: tires this size ship on freight. Include the delivery location so we can quote it.
- Used tires: ask for the tread depth, the date code and photos of both sidewalls and the bead area.

How tall is the 23.1-26 tire?
The nominal overall diameter is about 65.3 in (1,658 mm), which gives a rolling circumference near 205 in (5,208 mm). That figure is an estimate that assumes an 85% aspect ratio, the usual rule for old inch sizes. Real tires vary by make and load, so treat it as a guide and use the tire diameter calculator or the lead-lag calculator before you change size on a front-wheel-assist tractor.
Is 23.1-26 a radial or a bias tire?
It is a bias-ply size. The dash in the size marks bias construction, which costs less and has stiffer sidewalls. See the radial vs bias guide.
