Buying 18×8.50-10 tires
18×8.50-10 is a small tire used as the front tire on some garden and sub-compact tractors and on other small equipment such as carts and utility machines. This size format gives three numbers: an overall diameter of about 18 inches (457 mm), a width of about 8.5 inches (216 mm) and a 10-inch rim.
Turf or lug tread?
- R-3 turf: shallow, closely spaced tread that protects lawns. The usual choice for mowing and grounds care.
- Lug or all-purpose: more grip in dirt, gravel and snow, for towing carts or running a blade. Harder on turf.
Our tread types guide explains the difference.
Easy to confuse
- 18×8.50-10 vs 18×8.50-8: same outside size, different rim. The 8-inch version is common on lawn tractor fronts. Read the last number on the sidewall.
- 18×8.50-10 vs 20×8.00-10: same rim; the 20 is taller.
What to check
- Rim width: a wider tire needs a wider wheel. Read your sidewall and the rim before changing size.
- Ply rating: 2-ply and 4-ply are common. Go higher for loader work, heavy towing or rough ground.
- Tubeless: most are tubeless. A slow leak is often a bead or rim problem, not the tire.
- Used tires: small tires often dry-rot before they wear out, so check the date code and look for cracks.
- Pairs: replace tires in pairs so the machine sits level.
Other compact and garden sizes include 23×8.50-12 and 26×12.00-12. Send the quantity, tread and delivery location for a quote.

How tall is the 18×8.50-10 tire?
The nominal overall diameter is about 18 in (457 mm), which gives a rolling circumference near 57 in (1,436 mm). That figure is taken from the size itself. Real tires vary by make and load, so treat it as a guide and use the tire diameter calculator or the lead-lag calculator before you change size on a front-wheel-assist tractor.
Is 18×8.50-10 a radial or a bias tire?
It is a bias-ply size. The dash in the size marks bias construction, which costs less and has stiffer sidewalls. See the radial vs bias guide.
