Buying 12.4-32 tractor tires

12.4-32 is a tall, narrow rear tire for row-crop tractors, including many older machines. The narrow footprint runs between tight rows and the 32-inch rim lifts the axle for crop clearance when cultivating and spraying. It is about 12.4 inches (315 mm) wide on a 32-inch wheel.

The radial equivalents are 12.4R32 and 320/85R32. Most buyers in this size stay with bias R-1.

Easy to confuse

  • 12.4-28, 12.4-30 and 12.4-32 share the same width but fit different wheels. Read the rim size on the sidewall.
  • 12.4-32 vs 14.9-32: same rim, but the 14.9 is wider and taller and needs a wider rim.

Row width

Narrow rears only help if they sit centered between your rows. Tell us your row spacing and we will check the fit.

What to check

  • Tread: R-1 is the standard farm lug; ask about R-1W for wet ground and longer wear.
  • Ply rating: match or exceed your current tires, especially if the tractor runs a loader or heavy three-point implements.
  • Tube or tubeless: tell us what you run now, and whether the tires are filled with liquid ballast.
  • Front-wheel-assist tractors: changing the rear size or construction changes the front-to-rear ratio. Check it before you order.
  • Used tires: ask for the tread depth, the date code and photos of both sidewalls, and look for weather cracks.
  • Pairs: replace both rears together so the tractor pulls straight.

How tall is the 12.4-32 tire?

The nominal overall diameter is about 53.1 in (1,348 mm), which gives a rolling circumference near 167 in (4,236 mm). That figure is an estimate that assumes an 85% aspect ratio, the usual rule for old inch sizes. Real tires vary by make and load, so treat it as a guide and use the tire diameter calculator or the lead-lag calculator before you change size on a front-wheel-assist tractor.

Is 12.4-32 a radial or a bias tire?

It is a bias-ply size. The dash in the size marks bias construction, which costs less and has stiffer sidewalls. See the radial vs bias guide.
