Buying 5.00-15 tires
5.00-15 is a small front tire for older two-wheel-drive row-crop and utility tractors, and a rib tire for implements, planters and small trailers. It is about 5 inches (127 mm) wide on a 15-inch rim.
Which tread do you need?
On older tractors this size is almost always a steering tire with ribbed front tread. On implements it is an I-1 rib tire. Tell us which one you need.
- Ribbed front (F-2 style): for steering tires on two-wheel-drive tractors. The ribs hold a straight line and stop the front sliding sideways.
- R-1 lug: for driven front axles on front-wheel-assist tractors.
- I-1 rib: for trailers, wagons and implement wheels.
Our tread types guide explains the codes.
Easy to confuse
- 5.00-15 vs 5.90-15: same rim diameter, but the 5.90-15 is a different, wider tire often used on wagons.
- 5.00-15 vs 5.50-16: different rim; check the last number on the sidewall.
What to check
- Ply rating: match or exceed your current tires. Tractors with a front loader or front weights need the higher rating.
- Tube type: many front rims in this size run tubes. Ask if you need new tubes too.
- Wear pattern: uneven wear on front tires usually points to toe-in, worn bearings or loader weight. Fix the cause before fitting new tires.
- Used tires: ask for the tread depth, the date code and photos of both sidewalls, and look for weather cracks.
- Pairs: replace both fronts together.

How tall is the 5.00-15 tire?
The nominal overall diameter is about 23.5 in (597 mm), which gives a rolling circumference near 74 in (1,875 mm). That figure is an estimate that assumes an 85% aspect ratio, the usual rule for old inch sizes. Real tires vary by make and load, so treat it as a guide and use the tire diameter calculator or the lead-lag calculator before you change size on a front-wheel-assist tractor.
Is 5.00-15 a radial or a bias tire?
It is a bias-ply size. The dash in the size marks bias construction, which costs less and has stiffer sidewalls. See the radial vs bias guide.
