460/85R30 Tractor Tires

Buying 460/85R30 tractor tires

460/85R30 is a radial tire used as the front tire on many large front-wheel-assist row-crop tractors, and as a rear on heavy utility tractors. It is 460 mm (about 18 inches) wide, with a sidewall 85% of the width, on a 30-inch rim. It is the metric name for 18.4R30; the bias equivalent is 18.4-30.

Most tires in this size use R-1W tread, with deeper lugs for wet soil and longer wear.

Fronts on front-wheel-assist tractors

Large tractors often pair 460/85R30 fronts with rears such as 520/85R38, but the correct pairing depends on the tractor’s gearing. The front axle is set to turn slightly faster than the rear, and the tires must keep that ratio. When replacing fronts, stay with the original size and construction, or send us your rear size and tractor model so we can check.

What to check

• Load index and speed symbol: front tires on big tractors carry heavy front weights and loaders. Match or exceed your current rating.
• Construction: never mix bias and radial on the same axle.
• Used tires: good used fronts save a lot on large tractors. Ask for the tread depth as a percent, the date code and photos of both sidewalls, and check for uneven wear from toe-in.
• Pairs: replace both fronts together.

What do 460/85R30 tires cost on our site?

We list 15 models in 460/85R30. 12 have a listed price, from $460 (Cultor RD-01) to $1,807 (BKT Agrimax RT 855) per tire, with a median of $1,383. Prices are per tire in US dollars and change with stock and season.

How tall is the 460/85R30 tire?

The nominal overall diameter is about 60.8 in (1,544 mm), which gives a rolling circumference near 191 in (4,851 mm). That figure is worked out from the size formula (rim plus two sidewalls). Real tires vary by make and load, so treat it as a guide and use the tire diameter calculator or the lead-lag calculator before you change size on a front-wheel-assist tractor.

Is 460/85R30 a radial or a bias tire?

It is a radial. The R in the size marks radial construction, and radials need careful pressure setting. See the radial vs bias guide.
