Buying 600/65R28 tractor tires

600/65R28 is a wide, low-profile radial used mainly as the front tire on high-horsepower front-wheel-assist tractors. It is 600 mm (about 23.6 inches) wide, with a sidewall 65% of the width, on a 28-inch rim, for a nominal overall diameter of about 59 inches. The wide footprint carries heavy front weights and loaders with lower ground pressure than a narrower 85-series tire.

It is usually built with R-1W tread for traction in heavy and wet soil, and some makers offer IF (increased flexion) versions that carry the same load at lower pressure.

Matching with the rears

600/65R28 fronts are usually paired with wide 65- or 70-series rears, such as 650/65R38 or 710/70R38, depending on the tractor. The front axle must turn at the right speed relative to the rear, so replace fronts with the same size and construction as the originals, or send us your rear size and tractor model so we can check the ratio.

What to check

  • Rim: a 600-wide tire needs a wide 28-inch wheel. If you are moving up from a narrower front, you may need new wheels. Ask about wheels.
  • Turning and fenders: wide fronts can limit the steering angle and hit fenders. Check clearance at full lock.
  • Load index: match or exceed your current tires. Standard and IF versions use different pressure tables.
  • Used tires: ask for the tread depth as a percent, the date code and photos of both sidewalls.

Send your tractor model, the quantity and delivery location for a quote. Tires this size ship on freight.

How tall is the 600/65R28 tire?

The nominal overall diameter is about 58.7 in (1,491 mm), which gives a rolling circumference near 184 in (4,685 mm). That figure is worked out from the size formula (rim plus two sidewalls). Real tires vary by make and load, so treat it as a guide and use the tire diameter calculator or the lead-lag calculator before you change size on a front-wheel-assist tractor.

Is 600/65R28 a radial or a bias tire?

It is a radial. The R in the size marks radial construction, and radials need careful pressure setting. See the radial vs bias guide.
