Buying 13.6-24 tractor tires

13.6-24 is a rear tire for utility and larger compact tractors. It is about 13.6 inches (345 mm) wide on a 24-inch wheel. It sits between 12.4-24 and 14.9-24, which fit the same rim, and it is common on tractors used for mowing, loader work, hay and small-acreage farming.

The radial equivalents are 13.6R24 and 340/85R24. Most tractors in this class run bias tires, which cost less and keep a loader steady.

Changing width on a 24-inch rim

Moving between 12.4, 13.6 and 14.9 on the same 24-inch rim changes the width and the overall height. A wider tire needs a rim wide enough for it, room under the fenders and space between your rows. On a four-wheel-drive tractor a taller rear also changes the front-to-rear ratio, which can strain the front drive. Check with us before changing size.

What to check

  • Tread: R-1 for dirt, mud and snow; R-4 for loader work on hard ground; R-3 for lawns.
  • Ply rating: match or exceed your current tires, especially with a loader.
  • Liquid ballast: tell us if your tires are filled.
  • Used tires: ask for the tread depth, the date code and photos. Tractors stored outside often crack before the tread wears out.

How tall is the 13.6-24 tire?

The nominal overall diameter is about 47.1 in (1,197 mm), which gives a rolling circumference near 148 in (3,760 mm). That figure is an estimate that assumes an 85% aspect ratio, the usual rule for old inch sizes. Real tires vary by make and load, so treat it as a guide and use the tire diameter calculator or the lead-lag calculator before you change size on a front-wheel-assist tractor.

Is 13.6-24 a radial or a bias tire?

It is a bias-ply size. The dash in the size marks bias construction, which costs less and has stiffer sidewalls. See the radial vs bias guide.
