Buying 16.9-24 tires
16.9-24 is a rear size for utility tractors, tractor loaders and backhoe loaders. It is about 16.9 inches (429 mm) wide on a 24-inch wheel, so it is lower and more compact than a 16.9-28 of the same width. That lower height keeps a loader tractor stable when the bucket is raised.

The radial equivalent is 16.9R24, also sold as 420/85R24. Radials ride better on the road; bias tires cost less and have the stiff sidewall many loader operators prefer.
What to check
- Ply rating: loader and backhoe rears carry heavy weight, so 8-ply and 10-ply are common. Match or exceed your current tires.
- Tread: keep the same tread on both sides of the axle.
- Liquid ballast: many loader tractors run filled rear tires. Tell us if yours are.
- Used tires: ask for the tread depth, the date code and photos of both sidewalls.

How tall is the 16.9-24 tire?
