Buying 7.50-16 tires

7.50-16 is a front tractor size used on many utility tractors. It is about 7.5 inches (191 mm) wide on a 16-inch rim. On front-wheel-assist tractors it is made with R-1 lugs so the front axle can pull; on two-wheel-drive tractors it is made with ribbed front tread for steering. The same size is also used on farm trailers and implements with rib tread.

Tell us which one you need: a driven front, a steering front or an implement tire. They share a size but not a tread.

Front-wheel-assist tractors

On a tractor with driven fronts, the front and rear tires are matched so both axles turn at the right speed. Replace fronts with the same size and a similar tread depth, and check with us before changing brand or construction. A radial version, 7.50R16, is also made.

What to check

  • Ply rating: 6-ply and 8-ply are common. Tractors with a front loader need the higher rating.
  • Tube or tubeless: many 16-inch front rims run tubes. Tell us what you have.
  • Used tires: front tires often wear unevenly from toe-in or loader weight. Ask for photos of the tread and both sidewalls, and the date code.
  • Pairs: replace both fronts together.

How tall is the 7.50-16 tire?

The nominal overall diameter is about 28.8 in (730 mm), which gives a rolling circumference near 9 in (2,294 mm). That figure is an estimate that assumes an 85% aspect ratio, the usual rule for old inch sizes. Real tires vary by make and load, so treat it as a guide and use the tire diameter calculator or the lead-lag calculator before you change size on a front-wheel-assist tractor.

Is 7.50-16 a radial or a bias tire?

It is a bias-ply size. The dash in the size marks bias construction, which costs less and has stiffer sidewalls. See the radial vs bias guide.
