Who Makes BKT Tires? Owner, Factories and Where They’re Made
BKT tires are made by Balkrishna Industries Limited, a publicly listed Indian company based in Mumbai. Every BKT tire is built at its five factories in India. The company makes only off-highway tires for farming, construction, mining and industry, and sells them in more than 160 countries.
Who makes BKT tires? It’s one of those questions that comes up every time someone reads a sidewall and doesn’t recognize the name. Fair enough. It’s a short name for a big company. (We’re told the letters aren’t short for “Bring Kit Tomorrow”. We checked.)
BKT tires are made by Balkrishna Industries Limited, a publicly listed Indian company based in Mumbai and run by the Poddar family. Every BKT tire is made at its five factories in India. The company focuses on off-highway tires for farming, construction, mining and industry, and sells them in more than 160 countries.
Let’s get to the root of it.

Balkrishna Industries owns and makes BKT tires
BKT is the brand. Balkrishna Industries Limited is the company behind it. It’s a public company in India, and Modern Tire Dealer names Arvind Poddar as chairman and managing director. His father, Mahabirprasad Poddar, started the family’s tire business.
The company doesn’t make car or truck tires. It makes off-highway tires only: farm, construction, mining, industrial, lawn and garden, and ATV.

Where BKT tires are made
BKT tires are made in India. According to Wikipedia, the company runs five factories there:
- Aurangabad (Maharashtra)
- Bhiwadi (Rajasthan)
- Chopanki (Rajasthan)
- Dombivli (Maharashtra)
- Bhuj (Gujarat)
Bhuj is the big one. The Irish Farmers Journal reported in 2025 that it opened in 2012 and has grown to 798 acres, with a research center and six test tracks on site. Across all its plants, BKT says it makes about 1.3 million radial tires a year.
In the US, BKT has an office in Akron, Ohio, and a warehouse in South Carolina. Those handle sales and distribution, not manufacturing.

A short history of BKT
| Year | What happened |
|---|---|
| 1954 | The Poddar family starts making bicycle tires |
| 1987 | Balkrishna Industries begins making two- and three-wheeler tires |
| 1994 | Moves into off-highway tires |
| 2004 | Launches radial agricultural tires |
| 2007 | Introduces the Agrimax Force radial line |
| 2012 | Opens the Bhuj plant |
| 2014 | Becomes official tire sponsor of Monster Jam |
Yes, Monster Jam. If you’ve seen a monster truck crush a row of cars, there’s a decent chance it was on BKT rubber. That’s one way to get the name noticed.

BKT is a big name in farm tires
Agriculture is BKT’s core business. Wikipedia reports that about 80% of its US business is in the farm market. The Farmers Journal reports that 35% of its agricultural sales are original equipment fitted by tractor makers, and the rest are replacement tires. In Western Europe, its share of the ag tire market is above 20%.
The range is wide: R-1 and R-1W tractor tires, IF and VF radials, flotation tires for wagons and spreaders, implement tires and front tires, plus construction and industrial ranges.

Are BKT tires any good?
We supply BKT, so take this with a pinch of rubber. Here’s what the facts say.
- Tractor makers fit them at the factory. About a third of BKT’s farm tires go onto new machines as original equipment. Tractor makers test tires before they put them on new machines.
- They price below the premium names. BKT set out to fill the gap between expensive premium brands and budget tires, according to the Farmers Journal. Our listings bear that out: a BKT Agrimax RT 855 in 520/85R38 is $2,148 against $2,420 for a Michelin AgriBib 2 in the same size.
- They aren’t the cheapest. Value brands from India and Turkey list for less. The BKT TR 135 in 18.4-38 is $1,199, while the Petlas TA60 is $738.
Our opinion: BKT is a solid mid-price choice for working farms. If you run a big tractor long days in the field, the premium radials may still pay back. If it’s a weekend tractor, a cheaper bias tire will do the job.

BKT warranty and where to buy
BKT covers its tires against defects in workmanship and materials, with terms that vary by product and region. Read the warranty policy for your tire before you buy, and keep your invoice. Running the wrong pressure or overloading can void any tire maker’s warranty, so set pressure from the load table. Our tractor tire pressure guide shows how.
You can buy BKT through farm equipment dealers, tire shops, or from us. We ship to the USA and Europe in about a week.

When BKT isn’t the right tire
Honest answer: if your tractor’s maker specifies a different tire, or your size isn’t in a BKT line, don’t force it. And if your current tires are fine, keep running them. A good tire is the one that fits your machine and your work, whatever the logo says. Not sure what size you have? Our tractor tire size guide will sort it out.
