Trelleborg tires have a long history and a short answer to the question people actually ask. (Who owns them? Yokohama. We will get to the rubber-stamped details in a second.) That answer changed in 2023, so older articles may still name the wrong owner.

Here is the short version. Yokohama completed its purchase of Trelleborg Wheel Systems on May 2, 2023, and the unit now trades as Yokohama TWS. The Trelleborg and Mitas names stay on the tires. We read Modern Tire Dealer’s report on the deal, Trelleborg’s own history page and Farm Progress coverage of the earlier Mitas purchase to build this guide. The tables below show the models we list.

Who owns Trelleborg tires today?

Yokohama Rubber owns the Trelleborg tire business. According to Modern Tire Dealer, the deal covered the Trelleborg, Mitas, Maximo and Cultor brands. The new unit is called Yokohama TWS, and it kept its organizational structure. Paolo Pompei, the former Trelleborg president, became its president and CEO.

The parent company is a separate story. Trelleborg AB, the Swedish group, says it now focuses on advanced polymer engineering. So the tire name outlived the tire owner. Brand histories work like tread patterns: plenty of ground covered, and the lugs show where it has been.

How did Trelleborg get into tires?

Trelleborg was founded in 1905 as Trelleborgs Gummifabriks AB in Trelleborg, Sweden, according to its own history page. Bicycle tires were among its first products. Car tires became its leading product in the 1930s. The farm side grew by acquisition, and the big one came from the Czech Republic.

In November 2015 Trelleborg agreed to buy CGS Holding, the parent of Mitas, Rubena and Savatech. Farm Progress put the price at about $1.25 billion in cash. Mitas was about two-thirds of CGS sales, and CGS ran 13 production sites at the time: 11 in Central and Eastern Europe, one in the U.S. and one in Mexico. (Yes, we read an acquisition announcement for fun. Our Fridays are quiet.)

What does Trelleborg make for tractors and farm work?

Trelleborg’s tire site says it serves professionals in agriculture, material handling and construction. Its EIMA 2026 exhibitor listing names TM1000, TM900, TM800 ProgressiveTraction, TM800 PowerFlex, TM1060, PneuTrac, TM200 ProgressiveTraction and TM3000. The TM models are the ones tractor owners usually ask about.

Where are they made? We did not find a plant list on the pages we read, so we will not guess. The sidewall carries the maker and country of origin. Our tractor tire size guide shows where to look.

Read the codes like this. A 710/70R42 is 710 mm (28.0 in) wide, its sidewall is 70% of the width (497 mm or 19.6 in), and it fits a 42 in (1,067 mm) rim. The R means radial. The Trelleborg TM600 and the Mitas AC85 are listed in the same seven sizes, so size alone will not tell you the brand. See all our Trelleborg tires and Mitas tires.

Are Trelleborg tires any good?

Honest answer: we have no test data on them, and we will not invent reviews. What we can say is that our Trelleborg listings are radials, and the University of Kentucky Extension notes that radials need more careful pressure management than bias tires. Match the tread to the job and set the pressure to the load. Our radial vs bias guide and R1 vs R1W guide cover both choices.

Our one firm opinion is about used tires. Check the DOT date before you check the name. The last four digits give the week and year of manufacture, so 0308 means week 3 of 2008, according to NHTSA. A famous brand on a tire that is 12 years old is still a 12-year-old tire. Tread carefully.

When you don’t need to buy Trelleborg tires

Some days the honest answer is no. We would rather tell you than sell you a tire you do not need.

  • Your tires are only low on air. You need a gauge, not a quote. Start with our tractor tire pressure guide.
  • Your current size is right and the tread still has life. Keep running it.
  • You have a puncture that a local shop can repair.
  • Your tractor maker does not approve the size you want. We will say so, even if it costs us the sale.
  • You want a Trelleborg model we do not list. Send us the sidewall and we will tell you whether we can quote it.

For the wider range, browse our tractor tires and agricultural tires pages, or the rear tractor tires guide if you are replacing a pair.

Send us your sidewall size on WhatsApp and we’ll find the tire. We’ll probably make a tread joke on the way. The joke is free, and it never needs balancing.
